La compañía española de telefonía móvil Yoigo ha añadido a Apple Store entre sus distruibuidores oficiales. Los diez establecimientos que la firma de la manzana tiene repartidos por toda España ofrecerán contratar las tarifas de Yoigo al comprar un iPhone, según informa el portal de tecnología ADSL Zone. Hasta ahora, las únicas empresas de telefonía con las que trabaja Apple Store eran Vodafone y Orange. Tras el acuerdo, el primer operador en traer el iPhone a España, Movistar, será el único de los grandes sin presencia el dichas tiendas.
Yoigo se prepara así ante la salida de los próximos modelos de iPhone que serán presentados el 10 de septiembre. Esta colaboración permitirá que sus clientes se beneficien del asesoramiento de los profesionales de Apple en el momento de la adquisición. Los compradores de Apple Store tienen acceso a talleres gratuitos para conocer todos los aspectos del terminal y resolver sus dudas. Además, podrán optar al servicio sin coste de Configuración Personalizada que el fabricante pone a disposición de los nuevos usuarios. Este proceso sirve de guiar para configurar el teléfono, importar los contactos del móvil anterior, activar la herramienta antirrobo Buscar mi iPhone y conocer prestaciones exclusivas de Apple como iCloud
Oferta para empresas. Desde Yoigo nació en 2006 sólo se dirige al mercado residencial. Es cierto que esta operadora presta sus servicios a algunas empresas, pero no lo hace con tarifas diferenciadas. Según ha podido conocer movilonia.com de fuentes cercanas a la compañía, a partir de septiembre Yoigo dispondrá de planes específicos para pymes.
Productos convergentes. También a partir de septiembre Yoigo deja de ser sólo una operadora de telefonía móvil. Gracias a la alianza que ha alcanzado con Movistar podrá comercializar sus productos de banda ancha fija (fibra óptica y ADSL). De este modo podrá competir con las mismas armas que todas las grandes telecos y las cableoperadoras ofertando un producto convergente tipo Fusión (telefonía fija y móvil con una factura única) que tanto éxito está teniendo en España.
Despliegue del 4G. Aunque Yoigo ya comercializa servicios 4G desde el pasado mes de julio, el despliegue de esta nueva red ultrarrápida se ha acelerado y ampliado gracias al acuerdo con Movistar, que también hará uso de estas infraestructuras. La llegada del 4G a más ciudades antes de que concluya 2013 servirá para atraer a muchos más clientes ávidos de disfrutar de una mayor velocidad sin coste adicional. En total llegará un mercado potencial de más de 22 millones de personas.

A junio de 2013 la compañía reportó 920 mil 775 suscriptores únicos lo que representó un incremento de 12.5 por ciento en comparación con el mismo período del año anterior”.

Kip Hanson's Cutting Tool Engineering's "Let's Chat" Article
Kip Hanson wrote a very interesting article for Cutting Tool Engineering that is titled "Let's Chat". Kip interviewed me and a number of others for this article.
Below are some snippets from the article:
"Dave Edstrom, president and chairman of the board at the MTConnect Institute, McLean, Va., said, “Our vision is to provide an easy way for people to get information out of their equipment at a greatly reduced cost.
It's a long and very well written article. Here is an example of just how real MTConnect is:At a 2006 meeting of AMT—The Association For Manufacturing Technology, Edstrom made a bold statement: The industry was 21 years behind the curve in terms of communication. “Everyone was talking smart machines this and smart machines that. So I told them, ‘Why don’t you guys just get the damn things [manufacturing equipment] to speak the same language!’ There was no reason to reinvent the wheel.”Edstrom explained that many new machine tools already had Ethernet on board or available as an option. HTTP and XML were well-established protocols by that time on the Web. Working with Dr. David Patterson of University of California-Berkeley, they convinced AMT that these communication standards had already worked for the computer industry for more than 2 decades—why not apply them to machine tools as well? Apparently, their speeches were convincing because AMT provided $1 million to develop MTConnect.Oh, great, you’re thinking, one more CNC interface to contend with, along with more programming, more complexity and more variables, while all you want to do is ship parts. Not so fast. Edstrom said: “MTConnect is not an interface, nor is it a programming language. It is a simple, royalty-free, open-source standard built upon proven protocols. Similar to browsing on the Internet, MTConnect lets you type in the name of a machine tool and receive back simple verbs, such as probe, current, sample and asset. You say ‘send me data on what you’re doing,’ and the control returns that data to a database, spreadsheet or software program.”
"Collaborating with MTConnect sponsor TechSolve Inc. in nearby Cincinnati, Itamco has worked for the past year on a project to connect everything in the shop to ShopViz, a central machine monitoring system. It’s about 25 percent complete.Aside from the aforementioned benefits of machine tool monitoring, Itamco has seen some surprising results. By tracking power consumption on its equipment, Itamco reduced its energy costs. Neidig said: “Our utility company charges a much higher rate if we exceed the base level during peak hours. Because we can now monitor that real-time, we found that we could schedule jobs based on that usage. We cut our electric bill—roughly 14 percent of our total operating expenses—by more than 30 percent.”

Without shop-floor monitoring systems, manufacturers cannot effectively employ OEE metrics and lean manufacturing, said Dave Edstrom, president and chairman, MTConnect Institute (McLean, VA). At the MTConnect conference last April, the new MTConnect Challenge was presented, aiming to spur development of advanced manufacturing intelligence applications using the MTConnect standard. Edstrom said shop-floor monitoring is a must for both OEE and lean. “I think a lot of people are kidding themselves, because if you don’t have the data, you can’t be doing OEE or lean,” Edstrom said.snipped....
“The myth among machine tool builders is that it doesn’t benefit them, but when you talk to them, they’re differentiating themselves by being open, and it’s saving these machine tool builders direct money,” Edstrom said. Corvettes at Carlisle 2013
This was a very, very special Corvettes at Carlisle for a number of reasons:

La nueva tablet de Sony ya está a la venta en formato libre. Sin embargo, también es posible conseguirla a través de uno de los operadores nacionales, Yoigo. Además, esta tableta basada en Android, es de los pocos equipos del mercado que es compatible con redes 4G y que Yoigo pondrá en marcha en España, a partir del próximo 18 de julio. Pero veamos qué precios tiene esta Sony Xperia Tablet Z.
Pago a plazos y pago único
Yoigo siempre ofrece la posibilidad de adquirir sus equipos a través de dos modalidades: pago único o pago a plazos. Quizá en este caso, las ventajas se reducen un poco, ya que la segunda opción solamente está disponible con una tarifa de todo el portfolio del operador. Y siempre hablando de hacer una portabilidad desde otra compañía de telecomunicaciones.
Así pues, los precio serían los siguientes: el pago único que se debe hacer por esta Sony Xperia Tablet Z será de 670 euros con todas las tarifas y con cualquier modalidad: portabilidad de contrato, portabilidad prepago o dando de alta una nueva línea. Sin embargo, el cliente podrá acceder al pago a plazos si hace portabilidad desde otra compañía y contrata la tarifa del Dos —dos céntimos el minuto y un bono de Internet de un GB—, con la que se deberá abonar un cantidad inicial de 70 euros, y el resto del importe se fraccionará en pagos de 25 euros durante toda la permanencia, es decir, 24 meses.
Características técnicas
Y, ¿qué se llevará a casa el usuario? En primer lugar, remarcar que se trata de una tablet que es resistente al agua, al polvo y a los golpes. Por lo que está indicada para estos próximos meses de vacaciones. Además, su pantalla alcanza las 10,1 pulgadas y su resolución es Full HD (1920 x 1200 píxeles).
Asimismo, es un equipo que ofrece potencia. Sony decidió actualizar su anterior apuesta en el sector ofreciendo un producto basado en un procesador de cuatro núcleos con una frecuencia de trabajo de 1,5 GHz y una memoria RAM de dos GigaBytes. ¿Qué se consigue con estos datos? Que la Sony Xperia Tablet Z sea capaz de mover los iconos de Google con total soltura y sin tener ningún tipo de lag o retraso.
Por otra parte, es una tableta que ofrece dos cámaras de fotos: una frontal con una resolución de 2,2 Megapíxeles y una trasera con un sensor de 8,1 Megapíxeles y capaz de grabar vídeos en Full HD, es decir: en alta resolución de máxima calidad.
Ahora bien, uno de los aspectos más atractivos de este modelo es que es posible usar redes móviles insertando una tarjeta SIM en su interior. Pero aquí no quedará todo. Y es que una de las ventajas que ofrece en este sentido es su compatibilidad con redes de cuarta generación o 4G, por lo que las tasas de navegación pueden estar en torno a los 100-150 Mbps de descarga.
Por último, la Sony Xperia Tablet Z tiene instalada la versión Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, aunque Sonycomentaba hace algunos días que la última versión, la Android 4.2, que ya disfrutan sus hermanossmartphone Sony Xperia Z o el nuevo Sony Xperia Z Ultra que sale a la venta en septiembre.
